Award-Winning Heritage Restoration: Silent View Windows Commercial Triumphs at GGP Installer Awards.

Silent View Windows Commercial Ltd is proud to announce it has been awarded Best Heritage Installation at the prestigious GGP Installer Awards, held in Manchester a couple of weeks ago.

The winning project, the restoration of the former NatWest Bank on Thame High Street, showcases Silent View Windows’ commitment to combining modern performance with historic preservation, featuring Residence 9 systems that replicate traditional timber aesthetics while delivering modern efficiency.

A Landmark Restoration in Thame

Dating back to the late 18th century & operating as a bank from 1910, the building sits within Thame’s conservation area & holds significant architectural value. As part of its conversion into two residential apartments, Silent View Windows Commercial Ltd was appointed to design, supply & install new windows to the upper floors.

The brief required a sensitive approach to retain the building’s historic character while upgrading thermal performance & usability for modern living.

Reinstating Original Design with Modern Precision

Using a 1910 photograph sourced from Thame Museum, the team carefully recreated the original window design, restoring the building’s historic fenestration pattern with remarkable accuracy.

A total of 26 Residence 9 windows, finished in Grained White with leaded glass, were installed. The system was chosen for its ability to replicate traditional timber aesthetics, featuring a deep flush profile, slim sightlines & Timberweld jointing to mirror authentic joinery.

At the same time, the installation delivers outstanding performance, achieving an impressive U value & an A plus plus energy rating, exceeding current building regulations.

Overcoming Complex Site Challenges

Working on a historic High Street building presented a number of logistical & technical challenges. Irregular masonry required precise surveying & bespoke manufacturing for each unit, while the presence of a busy bakery below demanded careful planning to minimise disruption.

Restricted access meant deliveries & installation had to be carefully staged, with close coordination between contractors & local authorities to ensure a safe & efficient process.

Heritage Meets Performance

A key feature of the project was the reinstatement of architectural details that had been lost over time. By restoring the original glazing patterns, proportions & symmetry, the team successfully returned the building to its 1910 appearance while equipping it for modern residential use. All works were completed in line with planning & listed building consent, with the Residence 9 system approved for use within the Grade II listed property.

A Sustainable Approach to Renovation

Sustainability was achieved through a focus on retention & enhancement. By preserving the original structure & upgrading its thermal efficiency, the project reduced environmental impact while extending the building’s lifespan.

Client Praise

The project received strong praise from the client;

“I must say that they look absolutely fabulous! It is important that homeowners & developers see the amazing work that you do as a company. I hope these images elevate Silent View Windows Commercial as the best window company in Oxfordshire. It has been an absolute pleasure working with Enis, Jennifer, Sarah & Stephen & I am planning to do a lot more with the team very soon.” Nickie, Harrovian Capital Ltd
