Brief
Our clients contacted Silent View Windows after using the Love Thame site on Facebook to search for local glazing companies. With the number of recommendations being pointed our way they gave us a call! The homeowners in Moreton, Thame had french doors & large timber framed windows which, formed a substantial part of their kitchen. The original wooden frames were suffering from the inevitable effects of years of exposure to the elements and had become very weather-beaten & rotten, ultimately, they needed to be replaced.
Our clients were conscious this was a large job & were keen to ensure they appointed a company who had an excellent reputation & the finish would be to a very high standard. We were informed other window companies came to quote the job however, our clients didn’t hear back, a complicated job like this needed the Silent View experts on the case…
Products used
Silent View worked closely with both the homeowners & our suppliers to identify the right products that would work best for the desired outcome. The timber window frames were replaced with Origin aluminium, triangular aluminium windows sit beautifully under the roofline & where the French doors once stood now stands Origin bifold doors in Anthracite Grey. All fascia, soffit & guttering was replaced & the exterior was K-rendered.
A quote from our Director, Enis; ‘From measuring the steels and finding a solution to make this job work was one of my most challenging yet’….
Outcome
In order to achieve the desired outcome with little disruption our team had to prepare detailed plans and designs that comprehensively incorporated every element of the project. Our Structural Engineers, Cox Clifford came out to advise, this allowed us to identify any potential roadblocks early on and ensured a smooth and efficient process throughout the entire project. Precise measurements were absolutely crucial to ensure the steels would support the roof suitably.
The team built a steel frame to replace the old timber one holding the structure in place. Rather than just trimming the frame it was decided to have it k-rendered and plastered so as not to compromise on the slimline door and window frames.
With the rotting timber frame holding the weight of the roof, Silent View had to take extreme care when removing it. One wrong move & the roof could have collapsed! Acrow Props were required to help support the weight of the roof & steels were carefully put in place.
When we asked Marcus & Sara what they enjoyed most about working with us this is what they had to say;
- Silent View spent the time upfront ensuring all the details were worked out
- They were thoughtful about the installation process to ensure that the house was secure, this involved waiting until lighter longer days and ensuring enough members of the team were present to accomplish this in one day.
- Enis really thought through how the finish was going to look and how to ensure that the end result was perfect.
